I have two PCs sharing an HP Printer/Scanner/Copier via a USB switch. Only one machine has an ethernet card and in any event I have no practical need to network the two and prefer each having fully independent but switchable control of the printer. Under MS Windows, pressing the switch meant that the selected PC would initialize the printer and it was possible to print within seconds.
I now run 'Drake 9.2 on one machine and in many ways I really like it and would like to use it most of the time. However it seems that the PC must be rebooted (not just an "X" reboot) in order for 9.2 to see the printer again once it has been switched to the other PC and then switched back. Worse still, once the printer has been switched to other PC once while Linux is running I cannot get it to print again without..... reinstalling the whole OS again!!!!!!!! Even though Drake clearly can see the printer after reboot and XSane happily works the scanner......
Any ideas? I have used HardDrake to autodetect the printer without reboot (which it does) but this has no effect - I still cannot print.
