urpmi the battle urpmi 7 me 0

I have been trying to get urpmi to work and have had lots of problems,
comming from apt-get/yum on fedora this is quite frustrating.

I am running Mandrake 9.2 and am trying to add software via urpmi.
I get the following errors:

medium "usc-contrib" uses an invalid list file:
mirror is probably not up-to-date, trying to use alternate method
I have tried 4 different sources for contrib and i still get this.

but that is the least of my problems, I get the following error as well:

Installation failed, some files are missing:
ftp://public.ftp.planetmirror.com/pu...-1mdk.i586.rpm

And the install ends with me unhappy.
I have done an urpmi.update to no avail. I thought to try yum but yum appears to be broken.

Help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Aaron

Firstly, where did you get your source list from? I normally use Easy Urpmi.

You may need to issue urpmi.removemedia before adding the new ones.

Did you do:

removemedia
update (I think, I don't run Mandrake) to let the system realise there are no media listed
addmedia
update (so the system can refind the update media)?

Hi, sorry for asking, but have you read the tutorial from zeb at http://www.zebulon.org.uk
secondly, if you go to the mandrakeclub forum, and do a search for URPMI, you will get a very long list of Q&A where you can learn from.
thirdly, a very updated server is ftp://ftp.lip6.fr
good luck ( i had my part of the same shit as you have )
