TCL/wish path problem in 2009

Hi folks, I'm in the process of putting Mandriva 2009 onto a spare laptop so that:
1: I can learn some linux
2: I can have a slightly more secure portable platform
3: There are some engineering tools (specifically the geda EDA suite and the DMX package MagicPC) which aren't really good on anything else
4: Geek cred....

Problem:
Most of the GEDA stuff has been installed by Software Management. The PCB package isn't in there. I've DLd the tarball and spent an evening doing ./configure and each time it tells me I need something else so I install the thing with Software Manager and hit the ./configure again in Konsole... so far gcc, make, bison, flex and tcl... however it's coming up with the same error message after tcl went on as before...

"configure: error: Did not find the wish executable. You need to make sure that tcl is installed on your system and that wish is in your path"

what does that mean?.... what do I have to do?... my 'Nix experience is limited to using grep in Cygwin to find strings in files pretty much.....

err... help please.....

Welcome to LQ.

/usr/bin/wish is provided by package 'tk'
# 'urpmi tk' will install tk.

'tcl' and 'tk' are usually installed together as a "family
of software" , hence the "tcl message" from your program.

I have Mandriva 2009 beta 2, and the wish command is not
working : "Can't find a usable init.tcl ....."

It is beta, so do not expect everything to work.
Mandriva 2008.1 is stable.

Regards

Many thanks, I will investigate... unfortunately 2008 Spring on my laptop won't run the screen at full res, it caps out at 1024x768 and it froze quite frequently... beyond using the emergency console shortcuts to solve...

I found a way to have a working 'wish' etc. on 2009.

# 'rpm -e hfsutils'
# 'rpm -e libtcl8.5'
# 'rpm -e libtk8.5' (if there)
Packages 'tcl' and 'tk' also to be removed, if installed.

And from http://mandriva.c3sl.ufpr.br/officia.../main/release/
or from the 2008.1 Spring install DVD please use :
tk-8.5.1-1mdv2008.1
tcl-8.5.1-2mdv2008.1
libtk8.5-8.5.1-1mdv2008.1
libtcl8.5-8.5.1-2mdv2008.1
(tkinter-2.5.2-2mdv2008.1)

Then 'wish' works fine !

Regards
