Rosa desktop2012 lockout

Hi,
I installed Rosa desktop fresh 2012 from iso on a HP laptop in dual boot with WinVista: this worked fine, everything looked ok. I stopped/started the system 2 or 3 times without problem. Now, after the Grub screen it displays the Rosa splash screen and then a blank screen saying: rpc.idmapd could not find group "no group" and freezes. The only thing you can do is switch off the pc, one is effectively locked out of the system. Is this a bug ? Is there a solution or workaround ?

Thanks for any idea.

Hi, please press esc key when "Rosa splash screen", do you get a text console?

Rosa sounds like Plymouth,
a graphical screen to overlay any res changes and the normal text you might see starting a linux kernel.

If so, show us.

May be an explaination there.

Hi,

Indeed, Esc shows the startup lines flashing by, too fast to read anyting though. I reinstalled it and then the message kept being displayed on startup and shutdown, but the system did not hang on it. However after installing some updates and software, the same lockout occured: this is apparently one of Rosa's lesser products. On the other hand, I have been using their Marathon2012 LTS for some time now with no trouble at all. I have now installed Mageia2 on the laptop, so far without problems, works fine.

Best wishes

The benefit of being able to see the lines as the system loads (3 stages)

Is that if it stops, you may find some message there.

But if the flash screen is frozen and the keys locked out (x crashes/stalls) it will be difficult to glean any info, until a rebbot and trolling the sys logs.
