Return to a previous RPM version

Hello folks

On my previous distro, Mandriva 2006 powerpack (now I have a Mandriva 2007 KDE One), every time I had allowed an update for the PLF's nvidia package, proposed by the MCC's update tool, that resulted in a reboot in console mode, XFdrake unable to solve that, and after many attempts that was either a reinstall or a miraculous mesa mode that allowed 2D display.
Should I precise that even the nvidia installer didn't manage to install working drivers :x

So I am a bit worried now that the MCC proposes me a new update for the nvidia package !

Here is my question : is it possible, in a way or in another way, when installing a package, to tell the system "please, remember your previous file versions, and allow me to restore you back to that state if I wish to" ?
In other words, when upgrading to a newer version of an RPM, keep in store the way to get back to what the system (and the package !) was before the new package was installed ?

Thanks if you can tell me

Hi,
I think it's not possible, but specially for Nvidia cards you can use drivers downloaded from www.nvidia.com, Then if you not satisfied with new drivers you can reinstall back older driver. Nvidia has very nice support and drivers for linux.

Regards,
Valentin

Sabinou, Valyo is right.

Only use the genuine nvidia drivers under Linux.

It is a shell script install, but they work. Shut down X and log in as root at a terminal.

Hope this helps

Merry christmas

generally speaking, not about nvidia, when deleting/removing an existing rpm you can use the repackage option that will keep or generate a copy of the old rpm
