How are you planning to network them? If you've got a router which functions as a dhcp server (most do), all you should have to do is connect them to the router and you're good to go.

If you're trying to set up filesharing and the like, samba is the way to go.

Since you ask about commands & software, is there some specific functionality of the rather general term "networking" that you're planning to set up? What exactly are you looking to do?

We are going to use a hub to connect two linux computers one fedora core and the other mandrake. We are just going to try playing a game over LAN i guess. The game is called freeciv. BTW i tried installing it but when i run ./configure i get an error saying something about gtk something. I don't think i have it, does anyone know where i can get it.

OK, even if you're hubbed I don't believe that you should have a problem seeing each other. However, if you don't have a dhcp server you'll have to give each of the clients static IP addresses.

...There are _a lot_ of gtk-related error messages (and if you're running a graphical environment, yes you do have it. However, you may not have the devel libraries installed). Could you post the exact error message, please?
