Lightbulb Piping video out to the TV only.

I want to be able to pipe video via the TV-out on my NVidia to the TV *only* leaving my monitor clean for me to work on the com. My daughter sometimes wants to watch a movie we have saved on the computer while I'd rather continue to geek on. I never had any luck with changing the options of the NVidia card to something other than clone on Linux. If you have any suggestions or pointers I'd appreciate it.
