Password change problems in Mandriva 2006

I am running Mandriva 2006. I tried to change my user password the other day, but kept getting the complaint that the password was from a dictionary. He lied! My new password was a random selection of letters and figures. What is going on? How can I persuade the system to allow me to change my password?

Hi,

I remember something like that once but I think that it still accepted the new password.

You might want to check your password settings for the system.
Have a look at the file in the /ETC/DEFAULT directory.
