Angry no graphics with nvidia driver

I loaded the nvidia driver for my vidio card in my Mandriva (Mandrake 10.2) and everything loaded okay. After rebooting I came up in text mode (init 3) It would switch to graphic mode only after typing in 'init 5' How do I get it come up in graphic mode automatically?

as root open /etc/inittab and channge the number in the line "id:5:initdefault:" from a 3 to a 5 and save the file.

Code:
#
# inittab This file describes how the INIT process should set up
# the system in a certain run-level.
#
# Author: Miquel van Smoorenburg, <miquels@drinkel.nl.mugnet.org>
# Modified for RHS Linux by Marc Ewing and Donnie Barnes
#

# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by Mandrakelinux are:
# 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
# 1 - Single user mode
# 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
# 3 - Full multiuser mode
# 4 - unused
# 5 - X11
# 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#
id:5:initdefault:

no graphics with nvidia driver

Lakota; No Good; I changed the /etc/inittab file to read id:5:initdefault: lilke you suggested. I rebooted into Mandriva LE and the boot screen blinked once then went black and came up in text mode. I typed in init 4 and it stopped something and then typed in init 5 and it came up in graphic mode. But it won't come up in graphic mode automatically. Any other suggestions?

Two things:
1) I always add the word nvidia to /etc/modprobe.preload otherwise the nvidia module that you just installed for video accelleration does not get loaded at boot time and you end up using the original nv module (unaccellerated). This is what my modprobe.preload file looks like, also has a couple other modules listed but I left them out as yours may differ. Note: this is incase you find you are still using the old video driver, not actually directly related to your question.
Code:
# /etc/modprobe.preload: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line. Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.
# this file is for module-init-tools (kernel 2.5 and above) ONLY
# for old kernel use /etc/modules

nvidia
2)Open up Mandrake Linux Control Center, highlight the "Boot" tab, and click on "Enable autologin and select the user to automatically log in"
You should have an "x" in the box "Launch the graphical environment when your system starts"
and choose which user and desktop you want auto launched.

no graphics with nvidia driver

Lakota; It worked! I added 'nvidia' to the /etc/modprobe.perload file and rebooted. The boot screen went black and the nvidia screen came up then it went into graphic mode. Thank you for your assistance. Stephen

lol, I suppose I was wrong about that, I did not realize as I thought you would simply get dumped on the old nv driver, not to command line. Glad it fixed you up.
