Newbie Trying to Install Mandrake 9.1

I'm new to all this Linux stuff so I hope you explanation of my Problem.

I'm trying to Install Mandrake Linux 9.1 onto my PC. Its the only thing on there. Hard Drive was formatted before I started the Installation.

I go Though the Installation without any problems until I get to the Section where I'm asked to Select the Applications I want to Install. I'm trying to Install Apache,PHP,MYSQL which I know are on CD2 of the Installation Set. However When it comes to Install the Software from the CD It never Asks For CD2 as it refers to in the Manual. Is there a reason for this am I doing something wrong.

My next Problems Comes when I try to Configure My Graphics Card. When I select Test the Screen goes Blank for a Couple of Seconds and then Returns to the Screen that I started from. I've tried continuing the installation after this but when it finishes and boots up the Screen goes Blank and Doesn't seem to do anything. The Hard Disk Light and the CPU light on my tower seem to indicate that something is happening but the Screen doesn't show anything.

Hope someone can help. I've done the Installation Several Times now with out any joy.

Thanking you.

hi

when your black screen problem is solved in systray there is an icon "mandrake control centre" click it and enter the root password then select install packages and in the search window type the names of the apps you want (you might need to download them) then check the boxes next to them and then hit install. mandrake will automaticaly open your cd tray and prompt you to put the correct cd in. and thats it.

hope it helped

the screen problem is probably you have not found the right combination of graphics card, monitor, and resolution. I have some problems finding the right one. try selection low resolution 480'x600 and standard vga monitor. that might get you running then later go for more resolution. Make sure you have selected the right graphics card. Good luck and hope it helps.
