New to Desktop.....

Hi all

I have been using linux as a file server for a couple of years but I have finally gone to a linux desktop after Windoze really annoyed me. Anyway, I am running Mandriva LE 2005 now and have a couple of questions if I may....

I would like to have the Flying Toasters xscreensaver but cannot figure out how to get it to work. Can anyone help me with that?

Secondly, when I was running windows I used Thunderbird for my email client. The "data" is stored on my linux server in my home directory. I would like to do the same under Linux but, again, I am not too sure if this is possible.

And finally, I cannot seem to get Samba to recognise my other linux servers which appeared quite happliy to Windoze. My install is a pretty vanilla copy of Mandriva and the security settings are at the default of "High". Is there anything I need to adjust or look at to get this working?

Hoping someone can assist this desktop newbie...

Cheers
Bruce

Are you using KDE or GNOME? If its KDE right click and go 'Configure Desktop' select Screensaver and select it and press test. What does it do? Is it even available. Make sure that xscreensaver is installed.

Thunderbird for my email client.
Install mozilla-thunderbird then move the .thunderbird or .mozilla folder from your home dir on your existing thunderbird install to your new home directory.
