New Mandrake 10.1 User Looking for Mirrors
Hi, I have just loaded Mandrake 10.1 Community onto my machine, from CDs provided with Linux Format magazine. The intall went pretty well, except that the check for and download of updated packages failed. I think this was because I have a static IP, and the installer didn't understand - the internet didn't come up at all until after install, when I manually configured it.
Anyway, I am now trying to do a system update, but no joy! I have scanned the newsgroups for mirror sites that might do this, and have found many, but ALL of them fail at some point during the processing of adding them to Media Manager, with an error about it being impossible to download the updated packages content, and that the mirror may be misconfigured. It usually downloads 5 or 6 files successfully before it hits this error. They ALL behave the same. Is this a generic Mandrake 10.1 Community issue, or is there perhaps something I need to set up somewhere?
I am a complete newbie to Mandrake, having used SuSE 9.0 and Yoper 2.1. Please be kind to me if I am just missing something obvious! :-) Thanks.

Thanks! I am cranking away on that right now. When it is done, is there any more magic I need to do a complete system update, or can I just go to the Software Management tool and do the update? Thanks again!
Not to sound REALLY stupid, but what is urpmi? I've never heard of this before.
