Question Network Install

Hey,
I have a 233MHz machine w/ 64 RAM and I was wanting to install from network, as it has no CD-Drive, and I would like to know how it's done.
I tried booting from the network.img -- but it says I need at least 68 RAM to do so from FTP or HTTP and simply suggests a NFS or something like that. Is there any way I could bypass this?

Have you tried using text mode to install, that may reduce the ram requirement. You can always tell the kernel you have 68M of ram but you risk a crash by doing that, see the Bootprompt-HOWTO but I think it would be, linux mem=68M. A better alternative would be to download the files to your harddrive and do a harddrive install. You just make the bootdisk using hd.img. You should download the entire mandrake/9.2/i586 directory, it's a couple Gigs I think.

I was considering the hd method, but the hdd is under 300 mb. How could I do what you suggested in newbie terms?

I really would advise against lying to the kernel about your memory, because I think the kernel would get really pissed when it ran out!

Better to try the text install. You should be able to boot the floppy and at the first prompt hit <F1> then type text enter. You may not even have to hit <F1>, but that just gives you a little more information.

That is all there is to it. The install is the same but not as flashy and purty as the GUI install.
