Hi I got a new HP J3680 Officejet all-in-one printer and when I went to install the hplip-2.8.7.run file I downloaded from HP.
I used sh hplip-2.8.7.run command and had to download dependencies GCC and python and libusb. I used urpmi and had no problem installing dependencies but when I went to install the hplip-2.8.7.run after installing dependencies. I still get the message cannot install due to unsatisfied dependency libusb. I ran the locate command and got
indicating libusb is installed on my computer but still keep getting the dependency problem and cannot install the hplip-2.8.7.run file and I need help. I hope someone can help me also I am running Mandriva Free 2008 spring edition.

Yes I first tried installing using the mandriva printer utility but my model is not on the list or anything close to my model so I went hp and found the the file that will supported my printer. No I did not try local host:631 in a browser and I am not sure how to do that.
To use the web interface, simply type "localhost:631" in the URL window of any browser. The Mandriva utility should have similar functionality, but many prefer the web interface.
Regardless of which you use, there is an option to install your own driver (ppd file). I'm not sure if you can get this directly from HP. (Did the openprinting link give any clue?)
As for the method you were using, the only thing that comes to mind is that it is sometimes necessary to put in a soft link with a filename that the program is looking for.
I wish I had a dollar for every person who comes here with questions and never reports back. Your patience and feedback virtually guarantee that you will have a successful Linux experience.......
