mysql port issue

Hello,

I have Mandriva2008 installed.

I am not able to detect mysql port no.

The command : mysqladmin -u root -p variables

yields the following reults :

pid_file | /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid |
| port | 0 |
| preload_buffer_size | 32768

I have checked on Centos it show port no.

Can anybody tell me why is it not showing port as 3306 ???

Thanks

Varun

Is your mysql server using sockets for connections?

If your mysqld instance is configured to use a socket file for connections only local clients can connect. It will not listen on a port. Look in you my.cnf for "socket=" and check the output of netstat to see where mysqld is listening.
