Motherboard in-built AV detected Virus!!!

I recently downloaded and tried the Mandrake 10.1 Official version.

Everything was installed fine without any problem.

But then, when i restarted my computer, after pressing the Mandrake tab on my LILO bootloader, i was prompted by my MOBO AV (Antivirus) that a virus has been detected.

I use the

HIS motherboard, with VIA Chipset with an onboard antivirus (Trend Micro Chipway)

Is there anything wrong with this warning i get everytime, or it is just usual!

I get the same warning with other OSs i have installed!

(Windows Xp)

There is nothing wrong with the warning. It has something to do with checking the MBR and discovering that there are no windows on it (I think). Disable the antivirus scan and you should be well, or leave the antivirus check if you don't mind seeing it every time. There is nothing you should worry about.

You get the same warning with running windows without the LILO boot loader (before you installed Linux)??

Sort of... It has to do with writing to MBR.
Some BIOSes warn when something tries to write to MBR, which usually happens when you install an OS.

As marghorp said: enter your BIOS setup and disable it when you're installing a new OS (or re-running LILO) or
just ignore it if you know you're writing to MBR.

I am using a KT-748 (FIC) and if the BIOS anti-virus isn't disabled, it will halt my system. IOW, the warning can't be ignored.

It was designed for Windows NT, so I can't even flash the BIOS with Linux installed - it gives an "ntloader not found".

In fact, I think it's the worst BIOS that I've ever had to deal with.

All the above answers are right, disable the built-in anti-virus.

I can disable it.

I did not get this message without any Linux. (It only started since i installed Mandrake 10.1 Official with the LILO boot loader.

As marghorp said,

it must be givin an error as it may not be having a windows ..........I have windows xp too installed!

I don't know why it started givin me an error with only LILO.....

why not GRUB...

Is it like the Mandrake 10.1 Official version (3CDs)....does not come with GRUB ?

maybe not but add some sources from http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and you should be able to install it easily

I meant if you follow the instructions at the easyurpmi site to setup your computer to see the repositories of software available for Mandrake you will then be able to install grub easily from the software installation section in the Mandrake control centre (Menu->System->Configuration->Configure Your Computer)

Grub does come with the installation disks. You get to select it either during installation, or you get to choose at the end, when you're setting things up. You know, the next to last page where you set up your printers and LAN and things.

If you don't do it then, you can do it later by going to mcc > Boot > Boot Loader and selecting Grub.

If you'll look in /boot, you'll see that the files for both Lilo and Grub are there.

Wouldn't grub produce the same errors as lilo? If not, why?

The built-in av in your BIOS is probably warning you about a boot sector virus, since both Lilo and Grub modify the boot sector. It will also cause problems with the av program that came with XP, even if it is the same company (Norton, TrendMicro, etc), because it will be a different version.

In other words, I doubt that it will make a difference whether you use Lilo or Grub, those are really just personal preferences.

Here's a link to dual-booting Windows XP and Linux. I dual-boot win2k and mandrake-10 on a Dell laptop, and there were some bootloader problems, because win2k wants to use its own bootloader.
