Mandriva 2012 sharing issue

I've got a networking issue with a fresh install of Mandriva 2012 x64. I had a previous Mandriva installation of 2010 and samba was working well, but on the new 2012 installation my network shares are not being seen on my Windows network even though samba is installed and configured, I can connect to the Internet, and ifconfig shows eth0 active. I've set up samba many times over the years and I've always been able to get Linux sharing to work, but this time is a no-go. I used the same parameters from the previous 2010 smb.conf setup and the shares show up in the MMC with the correct permissions. I can stop and start the smb service, and systemctl shows that both samba and the network services are running. I can ping the Windows computers from 2012, but I cannot ping 2012 from any of the Windows machines on my network.

And while troubleshooting the samba issue I discovered three services that failed to start:
Code:
# systemctl list-units -t service
<snip>
atd.service loaded failed failed Job spooling tools
avahi-daemon.service loaded failed failed Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Stack
<snip>
fedora-loadmodules.service loaded failed failed Load legacy module configuration
Code:
# systemctl status avahi-daemon.service
avahi-daemon.service - Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Stack
          Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/avahi-daemon.service; enabled)
          Active: failed (Result: start-limit) since Tue, 16 Oct 2012 11:23:50 -0700; 1s ago
         Process: 10184 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/avahi-daemon -s (code=exited, status=255)
          CGroup: name=systemd:/system/avahi-daemon.service

Oct 16 11:23:51 STARGATE systemd[1]: Failed to start Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Stack.
Code:
# systemctl status fedora-loadmodules.service
fedora-loadmodules.service - Load legacy module configuration
          Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/fedora-loadmodules.service; static)
          Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Tue, 16 Oct 2012 11:27:09 -0700; 18s ago
         Process: 10434 ExecStart=/lib/systemd/fedora-loadmodules (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
          CGroup: name=systemd:/system/fedora-loadmodules.service
The 2012 computer has an onboard NIC that was tested before installation, and the computer also dual boots to Windows Vista. Networking functions normally with Vista so this issue doesn't appear to be hardware-based. 2012 acts like the firewall is blocking the network, but the firewall is disabled.

Any suggestions?

I would try first install webmin and then configure samba from webmin's web based configuration. It worked for me everytime, I used this on debian, ubuntu and linux mint. here is a link with excellent tutorial for webmin
