mandriva 2006 disconnects me from internet

Hi
I have a 512 ADSL shared connection through an Ethernet adapter connected to a switch then a router

Every time after installing mandriva Linux 2006 I found that after a period of time I find my self disconnected and when I try to connect myself again it tells me to check my settings in the mandriva control center

Some times when I click connect Ethernet it connects but it is really rare

But when I restart my computer it works fine again just for a while

BUT what's making me mad is that did NOT happen on either mandrake 10.1 or the Mandrake Live CD or even Windows

Thanks in advance

What network card do you have installed in your computer and do your logs show anything going on as your network connection drops? Doesn't seem like an Internet problem, though could check if you are still able to ping your router when you loose Internet?

sorry for late reply

my network card information copied from mandriva control center
Code:
Identification
Vendor: ýVIA Technologies

Description: ýVT6102 [Rhine II 10/100]

Media class: ýNETWORK_ETHERNET

Connection
Bus: ýPCI

Bus PCI #: ý0

PCI device #: ý18

PCI function #: ý0

Vendor ID: ý4358

Device ID: ý12389

Sub vendor ID: ý5218

Sub device ID: ý49180

Misc
Module: ývia-rhine
i'm sorry i am totally new to linux so can you please tell me how to view the log files

but lucky for me the same ping command works on both windows and linux so here is the result when i'm connected
Code:
[gazzaz@localhost ~]$ ping 10.0.0.2
PING 10.0.0.2 (10.0.0.2) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 10.0.0.2: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.651 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.0.2: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.696 ms
of course you know the rest

but when i am disconnected
Code:
[gazzaz@localhost ~]$ ping 10.0.0.2
connect: No buffer space available
[gazzaz@localhost ~]$
i hope what i am sending is quite helpful
and thanks for the reply

ps i was disconnected while i was writing this reply so i swiched back to windows

There is a similar thread from a week or two ago with identical problems after update to 2006 - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/359572 . When your net goes down, copy the output of "free" as outlined in the other thread, and also "top" - top will show what processes are currently running and how much memory they are taking up. At least you're not alone on this one!

but when i read the other post i disabled lisa and deleted mplayer "it wasn't working anyway"

after theses actions everything seems to be working just fine even the games that were slow are back to normal

i would like to ask what is the importance of lisa and is there is any downside of totaly disabling it

thanks again for your help
