Now it needs some work and maybe the more memberships they lose the more they will notice. Just my 2 cents though.
I agree with you about the membership. Especially with me, I'm a silver member so I paid $125/year. But now with only 1 release a year, that doesn't seem like it's worth it.

One thing I don't like about Mandriva is their inability to update software. It always seems out of date, like they are a few releases behind. I was really amazed and baffled when my Debian friend would be able to get the new KDE and GOME releases by just simply using the apt-get feature. in less than 5-10 minutes, he was already showing me all these new softwares. In Mandriva, you try to URPMI something and you end up with an older version, or it's not available. That's one thing that has frustrated me about Mandriva, BUT, it is stable and easy to use which is what sells me.

October 26 for everyone club members will be able to download on 10/6/05 "tommorow" if your not a club member I would suggest Suse 10.0 which will be released tommorow 10/6/05 also. Its free and you won't need to join a club to download it. Don't quote me on the release date though that is there projected release date it doesn't mean it will be released then.I will be checking the mirrors though.

Man, they just changed their dates AGAIN! The new dates are today for club members, source tree October 13, and NOVEMBER 4TH(!) for ISOs to non-club members. The original date was mid-September for ISOs to non-club, now it's early November! At this rate the final date will be early December. I'm getting really pissed at Mandriva with this constant moving-date thing. And before people start screaming, I know they're "estimates", but being off by 2 months??? I love Mandriva but I'm getting sick of waiting. I guess I'll wipe my RHEL and put LE2005 back on and whenever Mandriva gets around to releasing 2006 I'll reconsider. Arg. I was looking forward to 2006 a month ago, silly impatient me.

Hi
The BitTorrents are active for club members now. FTP access is next Thursday according to Mandriva web site. I'll be joining the torrent as soon as I get home from work.

downloading at 480 KB/s, 1 hour, 29 minutes left.

Seeding as fast as my cable modem will go. Will continue seeding through the day until i get back tonight to install it. then i'll reseed once i'm back to the desktop and updated my urpmi mirrors.

So in other words, all with a subscription, go get it.

Yup, I have just downloaded my Mandriva 2006 DVD torrent. Will download later this afternoon.

Anyone get a chance to install and use Mandriva 2006? How is it? The release candidates didn't work too well for me.

I installed it about a week ago and there is really know more eye candy then 2005. They got rid of the stoned penguin and replaced with a professional looking one. It seems to startup alot faster "on my machine at least" But is still plagued with a few bugs. Which is a mandrake trademark. "Thought that would change with the new name" guess I was wrong? The driver support is better. I had to load Nvidia drivers in 2005. 2006 I didn't have to though. My wireless mouse seems flawless unlike with 2005 where it went nutz every now and then. The software is all the same though nothing really stands out after startup except they put there goofy mandriva name on this one. But essentially they shouldn't really call this an official release its more of an update in my eyes. I will not be renewing my club membership though I don't see any benefits with being a club member anymore. Next time if I see a great review I would sooner just buy the boxed set. I was just as inpatient as everyone else about there release dates and delays and for what? Mandriva will have to get there sh*t together soon or alot more will follow. For those of you who are thinking of buying a membership consider this if you buy now you will get this release but the way they drug there feet on this one you may not see 2007 before your membership runs out. Yes they will release club releases for club members but they are a joke there just updating kde/gnome. You waste hours downloading and installing when you could just upgrade kde via urpmi.

I agree with mostly what you are saying.

I got around to finally installing my Mandriva 2006! I also did not have to worry about my nVidia drivers as they were installed automatically. nice!

I also agree with you that Mandriva 2006 is more like an internal update as not much changed visually. Basically us club members paid to have KDE and GNOME upgraded (eye candy!). Other than that, it feels really much the same, which is good thing, but I think these upgrades of KDE/GNOME/GCC etc... should be done by Mandriva automatically.

I also decided not to renew my membership. 1 release a year for $125 (silver) isn't worth it for me. I had the same great experience with SUSE, and that is free, too!

But overall, those of you that are waiting for the public release of Mandriva 2006 won't be disappointed. It works and is friendly!

For those of you who noticed only the wallpaper change read the Release Notes .
Those of you who want bleeding edge you can use cooker. AFAIK Debian Sarge does not get updates like someone here wrote. Either I'm wrong or his friend is using SID (the equivalent of cooker). So compare apples with apples.
As for the membership I agree IMO it's not worth to pay for it. There is a free membership called aluminium. Basically it's just registration to the forum but it suits perfectly for me.

Most distros won't make major package upgrades once a distro has been released. Debian, Suse and Mandriva seem to follow the same principles regarding major package upgrades. Suse will provide unofficial packages, Debian puts new packages in sid and Mandriva in cooker.
