here's the situation. i got dsl the other day, and i finally got that working. but i can't seem to get my networking working.
and this is where i'm at.
if i run swat, it says that samba is not running. but for some reason i think it is....though i don't remember off the top of my head. i have a command to run to make sure, but i have to wait till i get home to try it...
so really at this point, what kinds of things can i do to make sure it's (samba) is setup and set to run at boot? there's nothing fancy about my setup at home, 1 machine dual booting windows xp and mandrake 10 and another machine running windows xp solely. before just installing mandrake 10 would set up the networking just fine, i could use smb4k and it would see all my windows shares. but now it doesn't even see the box - though i can ping it.
would there have been anything with setting up the dsl cause a problem? because that's the only difference between now and the last time i installed mandrake.
I have not used Mandrake 10, although I have used 9.0, 9.1 and currently 9.2 extensivley. My guess is the control center will not be a lot different on 10.
Have a look at the Mandrake control center. There should be a "services" icon. It lists the running, and stopped services. If Samba is running, (SMB) this should tell you.
