and im really confused. i did a basic install, just added the multimedia selection and games selection with the others. boot up and it loads into console only, X keeps crashing, cant load KDE, i dont have mdkdm, or kdm, all i get is xdm.
and i know my gfx card is supported with Xfree 4.3.
I dl the 3 ISO'S and burnt the first one when i realized that their was a cd verify option on k3b. I turned it on and on my cd burner the 2nd and 3third cd's failed verify. I tried using my dvd burner with verify and all 3 passed. I was wondering if the first three were really any good. I loaded my machine with the three that didn't pass. I had all types of problems with 10RC1. I then reloaded the machine with the verified ones. This time machine runs without any problems what so ever. So even if the md5sums match make sure that what is burned matches he ISO's
I second that, the verify iso in k3b is fantastic. For some reason, I get the impression that installation cds are especially suseptible to bur problems. Maybe just my imagination or maybe it has something to do with the usage pattern or drivers used by the installers. Just guessing.
yes today i offically installed the lastest RC1 patch. I have a problem. I can not seem to beable to open the Configurator in the Welcome Screen, and the Kdesktop bar. I am not sure what is it, since i have installed it fresh, twice now. i have even selected all of the KDE packages, and it still does not work. I have also noticed u can not select root, on the login screen, and i am not sure how to be root, in windows x, enless i login as my username, do su root in console, logout, get to text startup and login as root again, and startx, but i am not even sure i can do that. Please help me, as since in this RC1 has been the worst, as in configuration wise. I am stumped on what to do, and anything will be help. Thanks again, and you can also contact me at extremefusion@comcast.net since i will not be on Linux till this is resolved. One more thing, since RC1 came out, and when RC2 comes out, what are the commands to rsync RC2 to auto-update from RC1. Thanks
Its generally considered bad practice to login as root in x-windows...the best way to do root operations is to go in as a normal user, open a console and su root
[Wow im a newbie and i found some knowledge that is useful to oother people!]
