madriva 2006 (commercial) on intel x64 board and chip problems...

Hiya all,

I recently purchased a intel x64 motherboard and the new Pentium 4 D dual core processor and built a state of the art x64 desktop, specs below before I go into my problems:

intel motherboard x64
Pentium 4 D dual core 3.2Mhz
Ati Radeon x1600 pro 512Mb PCIe
Sound Blaster pro 24 bit sound card
Serial ATA/300 300Mb HD
2Gb RAM 5200/533Mhz

I can install mandriva 2006 commercial but none of my hardware is recognized at all and I have been able to manually get some of it working from command line. I have yet to be able to get any of the GUI's to work, but can bring up some of the apps from command line.

This is driving me nuts. I have re-installed three times hoping during installation I can do something different to fix this but wanted to see if others have had any problems with the new x64 chipsets and mandriva before I just give up and wait.

Before I brazened and dumbass slapped, no I haven't been to the madriva site lately since I let my subscribe lapse to see if there is a x64 version available.

any response welcome if you are having any issues with madriva and the new x64 stuff out.

Thanks.

First port of call is to try 2007

There are plenty of versions, cd and dvds.
Pick the one you want

Note the dvd is dual 32/64 bits (contain both)

2006 commercial v 2007 free

I would suggest the same, but seeing as you let your membership lapse you are only going to get the free version of 2007, which means you'll loose a few things in the '06 commercial release you may have grown accustomed to.

2007 install is buggy as heck and a bear to fix afterward, but once done it's one heck of a system. I'd recommend you re-up at Mandriva Club and get the full blown '07 DVD for starters. I have installed it on an intel dual core (though 32 bit) and it recognized everything except the onboard video.

But for the record, Intel is generally not very Linux friendly. I say this from my massive experience fighting the dang things trying to install Linux on 'em. I've been using Mandrake/Mandriva since 7.0.
