I would suggest the same, but seeing as you let your membership lapse you are only going to get the free version of 2007, which means you'll loose a few things in the '06 commercial release you may have grown accustomed to.
2007 install is buggy as heck and a bear to fix afterward, but once done it's one heck of a system. I'd recommend you re-up at Mandriva Club and get the full blown '07 DVD for starters. I have installed it on an intel dual core (though 32 bit) and it recognized everything except the onboard video.
But for the record, Intel is generally not very Linux friendly. I say this from my massive experience fighting the dang things trying to install Linux on 'em. I've been using Mandrake/Mandriva since 7.0.
