Linux just seems incompatible with my machine!
Hi
At the moment the state of my machine is this:
Logging on with standard mandrake 10 kernel/failsafe kernel
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can only get past boot sequence if I unplug my Nvidia Geforce4 mx440 (Leadtek A180 8xAGP), otherwise it hangs after saying activating swap space ok. Unfortunately, using the onboard card isn't really an option for me. This happens even in single user text mode - I still can't get to the login prompt.
I selected the "nv" driver on install (although linux detected my onboard one by default - don't know why that would be) and selected the generic geforce4 driver for X.
Logging on with older 2.4 kernel
---------------------------------------
I can get into X, but only if I unplug my USB mouse before boot time. If I plug it in at any stage the PC freezes.
Hardware:
Prescott Celeron running on Asrock board with proprietary AGI interface (this could maybe be a problem for the new kernel - but why would the old one then work with it?)
I have been trying for more than a month now with different distributions and versions of Linux and always end up with the same problem. Not one distro will boot on my machine!!!! (Even tried Suse 9.1 Personal and Gentoo). I am just about ready to give up on this!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ruan
