Yeah, do a search here as I discussed this at length with someone a few weeks ago.

The "BMPTABLE" devices the "box" in which the various OS choices are permitted to be displayed.

The documentation is VERY unclear on this, and when I first looked at an example the coordinates were given in the hundreds...

I could never make this work and I kept at it using different values.

What I found to work in my case were sortof "cursor" co-ordinates...

Think of the screen as XX by YY characters in size.

The bmptable permits you to specify them...

Ok but what happens when you have a smaller or larger CHARACTER screen resolution defined?

Say the coordinates started at 132X by 10Y....

That would be fine for a console screen of 180 characters by 80 characters... but what about a 640x480 mode display...

Opps it doesn't fit as each character is say 10-12 pixels high... those same coordinates would be off the screen with a 640x480 vesa mode.

Get it?

You are trying to match a BITMAP coordinate system to a character based coordinate system...

That for me, was the big discovery that permitted me to place the "box" anywhere I wanted.

It's confusing because usually you address cursor coordinates directly, not in this crazy way...

On the other hand it makes sense because the system must boot up into a vesa graphics mode (using the video card's capabilities) but display TEXT...

Yes that's a much better set of directions than what I was working with...

At least I got the character addressing right....

Anyway its easier using the lilo -E bitmap.bmp and then at lilo.conf bitmap=/boot/bitmap.bmp for setting the coordinates easier. The .dat file must be on the same folder
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
