hi all,
ive been trying to get two monitors working as of late but the only thing i can do is get it to work with Xinerama. i have a nvidia card so i tried twinview but it didnt work. however i came accross the $KDE_MULTIHEAD environment variables for kde. my question is how can i get dual heads to work(spaning a screen accross two monitors), and can kde do this by its self?, what is that config option in kcontrol - Peripherals, Display, multiple monitors tab. and how do i set environment variables for kde.
Thanks mute
ps. if anyone has a spaned desktop can u post ur xfree86 (xorg, etc) file please.
i am running kde 3.2 mandrake 10.1 community and have geforce 5200fx
# Now enable dual head mode:
Screen "Screen1"
Screen "Screen2" RightOf "Screen1"
# This enables Xinerama. If you don't set this to "on", startx will spawn
# two indepentent X sessions. In Xinerama mode, both screens are virtually
# one screen and only one X session is started.
Option "Xinerama" "on"
That should be in your XFree file. No clue how to do it with kde.
Hope this helps you. The mouse is vanilla serial 2 button + wheel type. Monitors are twin CRT - main on left, secondary on right.

Hey Thanks alot perryub. Its always the simple things, i didnt have twinview "true" under server layout only under device. It works great!!
ps. under kde if u want to use config your desktop utility you need to have Xinerama running. i got it to work but Xinerama does not have hardware accel so my advise is to buy a nvidia card.
