kde 3.1.3

Been looking around and seen some nice eye candy.

From what I can find out, I need to upgrade my kde to version 3.1.3

How do I do this correctly - I thought I had downloaded all the stuff available. I have managed to update urpmi with the PLF and texstar .

And thought that I had all the stuff downloaded.

So when I try to change my desktop background, I get an error that says there was an error loading the module

Library files for libkcm_background.la not in path

I have dug around for the library, but cant find it - well not anyversion that is either "noarch" or mandrake

any ideas what I need to do.

and just for info, when I start the kde control centre, It tells me that it is version 3.1.0

regards

John

What do you think you need 3.1.3 for?

Your background is broken now? Anything else?

to be honest, I've forgotten why I thought I should be upgrading - read something about some of the themes and styles, fonts etc etc. that are supposed to be quite pleasing on the eye.

Well, after adding texstar (urpmi.addmedia texstar ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/contrib/texstar/mandrake/9.1/rpms with hdlist.cz), and running urpmi.update -a, doing "urpmi --auto-select" got me the latest KDE, 3.1.3. Should work.

It reports as KDE 3.1.3 in the Control Center, too.

Yeah, done all that.

But further meddling means that I am having to use mozilla in X, because now I can't open kde or gnome.

so I'll re-install and get things back to square one and them follow your advice and then post back.

Thanks for the assist, thus far.

regards

John

IIRC Texstar provide packages for Mandrake of the latest releases, which would require a bit of support due to complexity/stability to be official releases, but non is provided yet, so they're only available unsupported via Texstar. There's still plenty of users posting questions and answers about the releases though.

Question installing kde 3.1.3

Bollocks, Bollocks, Bollocks.

When will I ever learn.

There I am, just finishing the re-install i.e. setting preferences and installing the app's not selected by default (having already added texstar and plf for the urpmi updates), and happily selecting away.

click the install, which goes well (in the background as It bores the arse off me waiting for it to either install from the dvd or download from tex or the plf),

when that magical dialogue box appears - conflicted detected install aborted, etc etc etc! aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!

Never mind.

I'll get back to that in a moment.

So perhaps someone would be kind enough to explain (with the various links etc) how I actually install kde 3.1.3, where can I get it from i.e. for mandrake, as all the various sources that I have found so far don't mention mandrake. They seem to have lots of other stuff, but nothing vaguely mandrake remniscent.

Then I might be able to follow some of the stuff in the other posts.

Many thanks

regards

John
