Is this a good idea for updating to Mandriva 2005?

I'm currently running Mandrake 10.1 and figure it's a good idea to update to the latest available version, but don't feel like formatting.

Could I set my update sources to the ftp directories for mandriva, go to init 3, and just run urpmi?

I've done it before, when updating my laptop from Mandrake 10 to 10.1, but think I'm either missing a step or have the run level wrong.
There's also the fear that it won't work and I'll have severely screwed myself over.

Please note that I'm not very adept with Linux.

Its worked for me in the past. The best thing is to do "urpmi urpmi" first, as root. When urpmi and its dependencies have been upgraded, then do "urpmi.update --autoselect".
