I have burnt the Mandriva One (live cd) and it boots up fine. It has detected most of my hardware and dsl which is fantastic.
my questions are;
1. Will i always need this live CD to boot up or is there any fix to that?
2. Please give me a link from where i can download latest dvd (if it is for free)?
Hey, Yeh its all free, well the 'one' distro is. The 'power' version of it you have to buy, because it comes with proprietary software, such as mp3 and dvd playback. But all of these can be added to the free one later.
As for installing it, there is usually a readme somewhere on the disk, or an application on the desktop that will let you install it. If not, then maybe somewhere in the software menus. Its been a while since i have used mandriva, and i didnt get the live cd, it just came as a dl and install option. *buntu has a nice little install option on the desktop that installs it for you, i would assume mandriva would have something similar

When it is fully runing on the desktop is icon with the name Install on
hard drive or something like that.
You can also choice where to install and how much space it may use ,
and where to install GRUB

I have installed the Mandriva but hey!!! it is 98% Windows i.e. same interphase, same options etc. which is really a big set back for me.
I have a problem that laptop desktop screen is vivid and sharp in the middle but it is hazy and unclear on the corners.
I didnt install any vedio drivers but i guess nvidia drivers have been installed during installation process. It shows Nvidia logo at the start. I guess drivers are installed correctly but how do i check?
I have switched to Debian. Mandriva is too basic for my liking. There isnt any thrill like "Linux" in it. On the other hand Debian is yummy and thrilling and awsome!!!!
