Installing Canon MP360

Hello,

I try to install my printer, a canon MP360 on mandrake 10.1, so i configure cups with the file Canon-MultiPASS_C3500-bjc600.ppd, linuxprinter.org says that this printer is partially supported.

The printer works fine, the only problem is that the text isn't centered, what i mean is that the right part of the text is "truncated", and i'm wondering if there is a place where i can configure that, In cups, i specify the page size as A4

Thanks for you help.

punx120; try config via the printers settup or cups. also check with canon`s
support see if they have a workaround?
review the printers manual for manually adjusting centering pages.

Canon MP360

Hi all,

Isn't it just amazing that a large corporation like Canon do NOT provide Linux drivers for their products? They obviously haven't woken up to the fact that more and more businesses as well as individuals are switching from MS to Linux. I'm running SuSE Linux 9.1 on my desktop PC. It works beautifully but sadly no printer driver available.

I have searched high and low to find a Linux driver for the Canon MP360 but not much success.
I did find a driver which will support some functions on the MP360 that was at:
http://www.turboprint.de/english.html
HOWEVER, they want 29.95 Euro ~ US$37 for their driver!!!

They encourage you to download and install the driver free for private individuals but guess what:
they include their 1.5 inch high colour logo and slogan at the foot of the page right across the page. They also stiffle the functionality of the driver so that the result is not even as good as draft printing. So that is obviously NO SOLUTION.

If anyone finds a driver for the Canon MP360 that works they I would love to hear about it.

I also suggest contacting Canon and letting them know that you are not satisfied with their products when they are not making drivers avalable which makes it possible to run them under Linux. The more we tell then the sooned they will start supporting us. Here is the only one email address I found on their web site: staffing@cda.canon.com

Greetings from Down-Under,

Ole

There are Linux drivers available, some one found them on their Japanese website from memory. I got them for my i560. You need three files, 1. libpng2-1.0.12-2mdk.i586.rpm, 2. bjfiltercups-2.4-0.i386.rpm and then the file specific for your prinyer in my case this was 3. bjfilterpixus560i-2.4-0.i386.rpm. This information might allow you to Google them up for your printer. You install the RPM's in the order 1,2 and 3. This worked for me with 10,1 and LE 2005. Good luck.

Try here ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux/. For the printer drivers, the mdk rpm you get from the normal sources. Cheers Sdrambo

Oh and when you have installed the three rpms, then rerun the printer setup and you will find your printer is now listed in with the other canons and your away. It is essential to run 1 first otherwise you get dependency issues. I quess that was self evident but for completeness...

Unhappy

G'day sdrambo,

Thanks for your posts but unfortunately that information doesn't seem to solve my problem.
I have an MP360 printer and it does not appear to be covered by the downloads on that Japanese site.

I spoke to Canon support here in Australia this afternoon and they could not offer any help whatsoever.

It seems to me quite unbelievable that a corporation the size of Canon do not make the resources available to produce these driver or simply don't care.

And, in case you're wondering, I'm at Lailey west of Brisbane 2/3 of the way to Toowoomba.

Thanks again for your interest.

Cheers mate,

Ole
