I d/l'ed the four files for mandrake on their official page, three of them with cd1, cd2... and so on... in the file name. I burned each of these three files onto three separate cd's.
Then I put cd1 in my d: drive, restart my computer, and windows loads as normal. I was expecting for the cd to load an installation screen (without xp loading), just like it does on my XP system restore disk.
What am I missing?
also, if I want to set up a dual-boot system for XP and mandrake, will the installation cd do that for me, or do I need to partition beforehand?

Is your system set to boot from your cd rom? If it`s not then windows will boot first before checking to see if there is a bootable cd in the drive
Mandrake will install itself alongside windows and add windows to the bootscreen so that you have a choice when you boot up as to which you want to use. During the install you will have to shrink your windows partition by the amount you want for mandrake . You are using XP though, and i have read that there have been people who have had a few problems so there maybe some specific things about dual booting with XP that i don`t know about. Just have a look around, there should be plenty of info on this in the forum.
