How to wipe HD on new install?

Hello,

I am a soon-to-be first-time Linux user. I intend to download Mandrake 9.2 and install it on a Dell Latitude PII-450 with 256M RAM and a 30 GB HD. It currently has Windows XP on it, and most of the HD is filled with all sorts of junk. I would love to wipe the HD at the same time that I install Linux. Is this possible? Can someone give me some pointers on that process? If it is not possible, is there an easy way to wipe out all non-Linux stuff after the install?

If you want to trash all your windows stuff, that's easy , just install mandrake right over top of it. Linux uses different filesystems than windows, and when you reformat it wipes it all out. The install should give you some warning about this and give you the opportunity to change your mind.

With Mandrake, it's simple. Choose "custom partitioning", set the mount point, (/), then click "next". Mandrake will then tell you it's formatting hdXXX. Takes about 10 seconds. ;>
