How to setup computer to computer network between Mandriva and Mac?
I'm quite not used to Mandriva yet and i don't know much of networking. I have two computers - one has mandriva and other has Mac Os Tiger.
I want to exchange data between computers, but don't know how to setup LAN computer to computer connection from Mandriva. In Mac this connection is found without head-ache. How can i configure it in Mandriva? I went to MCC, but didn't really know which kind of connection to choose..
Tech data:
Mac - Powerbook G4 17'
Computer with Mandriva - Asus A8N-SLI, nForce4
I have heard that there is trouble with that nforce4 chip, is that why i can't make a connection?
What type of connection do you have first?
Is it a direct crossover cable or a normal cable through a hub or some other type of connection?
Does the Mandriva machine have a network card and have you configured that ?
There is a fair bit of detail to be put in before it will work
I have crossover cable.
I have network card on motherboard:
Tootja: nVidia Corp.
Kirjeldus: Ethernet controller
Andmekandja klass: BRIDGE_OTHER
Siin: PCI
PCI siin #: 0
PCI seade #: 10
PCI funktsioon #: 0
Tootja ID: 0x10de
Seadme ID: 0x0057
Tootja alam-ID: 0x1043
Seadme alam-ID: 0x8141

I haven't been able to make it work on my internet connection either and for internet i use extra network card:
Tootja: ADMtek Inc.
Kirjeldus: ADM983 Linksys EtherFast 10/100
Andmekandja klass: NETWORK_ETHERNET
Siin: PCI
PCI siin #: 5
PCI seade #: 7
PCI funktsioon #: 0

Seadme ID: 0x0985
Tootja alam-ID: 0x1113

This card runs on internet just fine using DHCP. But i couldn't establish computer-to-computer network with that card either.
I'm sure that i don't know how to configure that kind of connection as i can't find in MCC no computer to computer network setup.
Is it at all possible to exchange files between Mac Os and Mandriva?
Are you using a modem to connect to the internet or a router?
You mention 2 nics or network cards, so are you using one to connect to a router and one to connect the MAC to the linux box?
If your linux box is connecting to the net, then you should be able to connect the MAC to the linux box by changing the network options on the MAC to have it point to the linux box as a router especially if you have dhcp working on the linux box.
