how to install HP laserjet p1006 in Mandriva 2008


I tried to install hp laserjet p1006 on Mandriva 2008 using hplip-2.7.7-8.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm.
Install prossesed successfully, but when added printer from Mandriva Contro Center the type of printer did not appear, why?

try a diff driver as per this page

thats because its called hpijs or Gutenprint

try this from that link
32 bit http://openprinting.org/download/pri...sb3.1.i486.rpm
64 bit http://openprinting.org/download/pri...3.1.x86_64.rpm

howto to install
rpm -Uvh <name of the downloaded RPM package>

You can try to install the hplip-package to.

The HP WEB site redirects you to sourceforge at the following Link. It appears that your printer is supported under hplip but requires a downloadable proprietary plugin. See the WEB page for the information they provide.

You should also see the this page if you need to install the latest hplip.

Yup............ follow instruction on hP web
using latest hplip
