how to access MandrakeUpdate if it is not in the main menu?
Hello!
I need to use MandrakeUpdate, but the shortcut is not in its (apparently) regular place in the menu, ie K-> System->Configuration. Can someone provide me the the command line command? 'MandrakeUpdate' doesn't seem to do it....
open a terminal, su to root (type su at the prompt (enter) type root password (enter), then type mcc (enter)........... MCC=Mandrake Control Center. in MCC got to software management->updates.
Hello!
typing 'mcc' as root (or normal user, for that matter) results in a 'bash: mcc: command not found' . 'urpmi mcc' results in
'
The following packages contain mcc:
jmcce
jmcce-fonts
jmcce-inputref
'
none of which I suspect to be the proper program....
it would appear (to me) that MCC is missing. what were you doing before it disappeared? try typing in terminal as root drakconf (hit enter). drakconf is another name for mcc. if it still don't run, in terminal as root do urpmi drakconf. that will install it. then, go for the updates.
So far so good, but when I start drakconf , the only choices I am given include:
Boot
Hardware
Mount Points
Network & Internet
Security
System
but no mention of 'software management' (I checked within each group, as well). Is it perhaps an old version or something? The file was named 'drakconf-10-12mdk.i586.rpm'

that version of drakconf should be ok. it's the one that shipped with 10.0. but, there has been an update to it in recent weeks, & i think one earlier. the current version is drakconf-10-14.1.100mdk. do you have update sources set up? if so, in terminal as root type urpmi.update -a (enter). that will update all of your sources. then do urpmi drakconf (enter). that will find the current version of drakconf. install it & any dependencies it asks for. if you don't have sources set up, go to Easy URPMI & get an update source. while you're there you should also get contrib, main, & plf sources. (please note.......... the Easy URPMI site appears to be down right now. if you can't get to it, try again later)
i have no idea why the software management module would be missing from MCC. again, was there anything you did/installed before all this started to happen?
Hello!
My mistake- I had used urpmi to get drakconf, so of course it must be the most up to date version. As to what I was doing that caused it to 'disappear', I have no idea because I never used drakconf before so I don't know when it disappeared. Is this sort of thing common?
Looks like it is time to start _another_ new thread!
In the root console type MandrakeUpdate
or quick way is to type M followed by tab that should get you a list of all exec's in your path starting with M
