how do you install aim?

I'm sure you've been asked this question like a million times... but how do I install aim in mandrake 10.0?

There were instructions, but they all seemed to be jibberish to me...

the instructions are pretty straightforward. what part are you confused about?

1. download the file
2. run # rpm <filename> (the # means you are su-ed to root)
3. run /usr/local/bin/aim to start it

(here's a tip, gaim is probably better http://gaim.sourceforge.net/)

Talking Alternatives

I'd suggest using a Free alternative. AOL's software is crap (especially the half-baked Linux port). Two really great IM clients, each supporting a number of different protocols (AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc.), are Gaim and Kopete. You can download Gaim here --> http://gaim.sourceforge.net and Kopete here --> http://kopete.org/

Both sites have straightforward installation instructions. They also should both be included with Mandrake (although not neccessarily the absolute latest versions). You can use drakconf to install them (click "Software Management" and then "Install" within the "Mandrake Control Center").
