Good looking non aa fonts ?

Hi,
I'm wondering how I can make my fonts (under mandrake 10 of course) looks good without using the Anti-Aliasing.

I know it's not just unchecking "Anti-Aliased Fonts" in KDE control panel by the way..
I tried to recompile FreeType but after ./configure, make, make install, nothing changed.

Anyone has tried and succeeded ?

I read in a config file somewhere that MDK uses its own font server, so other font libraries are probably going to be ignored.

I set my screen resolution to 1600x1200, so no need for anti aliased fonts, everything is fuzzy enough as it is.

Also I went to Configure Desktop -> System -> Font Installer, and jacked all the fonts off my Windows box. Going that route may at least give a better selection.
