gcc? g++? gnat? huh?

Hi

I have a new install of mandriva 2006, i want to install some firefox plugins. I got the java and flash working now i want to do the mplayer plugin. I downloaded it and extracted it then i go to try and use the ./configure command in the mplayer directory and it starts but then when it comes to compile it says it can't find any compiling software ..

[root@localhost mplayerplug-in]# ./configure
checking for g++... no
checking for c++... no
checking for gpp... no
checking for aCC... no
checking for CC... no
checking for cxx... no
checking for cc++... no
checking for cl... no
checking for FCC... no
checking for KCC... no
checking for RCC... no
checking for xlC_r... no
checking for xlC... no
checking for C++ compiler default output file name... configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.

so i have heard of g++ before and i looked for a rpm for it and got it but it said it required a gcc update so i now have gcc version..

[root@localhost mplayerplug-in]# gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 4.0.1 (4.0.1-5mdk for Mandriva Linux release 2006.0)

but the g++ install still wont work.
What do i have to do to get a compiler for mplayer.

Thanks Dex

You need the development packages which you didn't install during setup. Have a look at 'install software' in the mandriva control centre and install gcc etc if you haven't got them. The mplayer plugin is also available as a mandrake package if you've set up sources at www.easyurpmi.zarb.org.

Actaually, even easier, sign in as root in a console by typing su. Then just type urpmi gcc . The package gcc includes g++ etc.
