firefox java plugin libstdc++.so.5: problem & solution

Hi folks,
I only want to show a tiny obstacle to getting java running in firefox and how to overcome it:
Configuration:
Mandriva 2007 free
firefox 1.5.0.7
java jdk 1.6.0_01

I installed java and the plugin like described on many webpages (install by .bin, symlinking the plugin and so forth), nevertheless the java plugin test on

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

failed constantly.

So I started firefox from a console and got:

Code:
VM did not start up properly
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/jre/lib/i386/libdeploy.so:

Could not start JavaVM!
Mandriva by default did not install the library libstdc++.so.5 (but libstdc++.so.6).

Problem was easily solved by installing the libstdc++.so.5 from the Mandriva DVD.

Hope this prevents others from spending too much time on this little issue.

Should you not have installed the JRE (java runtime environment) and not the JDK (java development kit) version?

I'm coding in java occasionally, so I used jdk. But you are right, jre would be normal. Maybe someone knows, if the standalone jre and the jre of the jdk are identical...

As far as I know, the jdk-jre is identical to the jre.

But it won't save much space to remove it.
