Distribution: Mandriva mostly, vector 5.1, tried many.Suse gone from HD because bad Novell/Zinblows agreement

possibly you/mandriva did not setup the graphic card
properly, you should have a graphical login
go run level 1 or 3 (i think) then
you can type to become root (="god on the computer")
su
then type drakconf and you will be able to configure the
video card (choose vesa for a starter)
run level 5 is the one with full graphical interface
this should have started by default, you can try typing 5 and then startx
and tell people what the messages are exactly
look as well (once you have been in run level 1 or 3)
and kind of stuck if you can find any clues by reading these files
(do these command lines)
less /var/log/syslog (pge upd down to scroll)
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log
command line is not fun when beginning but can be quite fast,
also from a distance it is easier than saying click here and there
