Digikam won't download

Using Mandriva 2005 LE and a Canon A400 Powershot. Camera detection is ragged , but when the image comes in it won't download the image. I'm new to the camera process. Hope someone knows an easy fix. Thanks in advance. I've tried it with Mepis and it works fine.

hello

hello,
i think you have at least two options here :-
You can buy a card reader, which has the advantage of faster transfer speeds and very easy recognition. I have also found that there is less wear and tear on my camera plugs(i have a eos 300 dslr).
The second is to copy the files straight from the camera to your favourite folder and then view them with digicam. Also try to reinstall the camera, as that sometime works.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I tried the card reader and it wasn't recognized. It may not be a very good one. I'm still working with it. I tried in PTP mode and I got it to work somewhat. Thanks again.

cinepaint

hello,
hope it works out as linux, and in this case mandriva, is by far the best o/s for digital image storage and manipulation. Considering that linux is by far more stable, and that you have gimp(free) for your image editor (8 bit) or better still cinepaint (8, 16 or even 32 bit) you should be well on the way to image nirvana.
many thanks. steve.
