Compiling kernel on Mandrake 9.2

Hi there, I'm running Mandrake 9.2 on a Dell Dimension 4100 and am having difficulty compiling kernel 2.6.3.

Questions:
1.) Do I need a Mandrake-customized kernel? Or can I just use the one on kernel.org?
2.) I have Intel i815 integrated graphics chipset but I also have an ATI Rage 128 Pro AGP 4x graphics card. I am confused about which one to select for graphics support , direct rendering manager, and framebuffer support.
3.) The networking support section has a trillion options. I am only going to surf the net, upload and download from FTP, file-share a little, and send a little e-mail. Which options o I choose? I am running a cable modem on a network card that uses the "tulip" module. Do I need NFS support?
4.) I am using a multi-function printing/scanning/copying device from HP. Do I need to enable USB Scanning support? Mandrake has already told me that my device is configured under PrinterDrake and not ScanDrake.
5.) My BIOS does not support ACPI. Here are the actual error messages:
Code:
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: BIOS-e820: 0000000017fc0000 - 0000000017ff8000 (ACPI data)
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: BIOS-e820: 0000000017ff8000 - 0000000018000000 (ACPI NVS)
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI disabled because your bios is from 2000 and too old
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: RSDP (v000 AMI ) @ 0x000ff980
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: RSDT (v001 DELL ZUUL 0x20001128 MSFT 0x00001011) @ 0x17ff0000
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: FADT (v001 DELL ZUUL 0x20001128 MSFT 0x00001011) @ 0x17ff1000
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: BOOT (v001 DELL ZUUL 0x20001128 MSFT 0x00001011) @ 0x17ff4000
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: DSDT (v001 D815EA EA81510A 0x00000012 MSFT 0x0100000b) @ 0x00000000
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: MADT not present
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: Subsystem revision 20030813
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: ACPI: Interpreter disabled.
Mar 7 18:08:23 localhost kernel: PCI: ACPI tables contain no PCI IRQ routing entries
Yet when I compile my kernel with only APM, my computer can't turn itself off when I shut it down. As soon as the X server closes, my monitor blanks out and I have no idea when I can switch the power off.

6.) Do I need RAID/LVM support? I only have one hard disk.

7.) I have a USB mouse that plugs into a PS/2 converter. Do I need to enable USB HID?

8.) Do I need to include Cryptography support? CRC32? I have no idea what these things are.

Also, I'm not able to load my modules unless I compile them into the kernel. If I upgrade module-init-tools, I can no longer access kernel 2.4.22, which I need until all my problems are sorted out. Here are my specs (from HardDrake):

in terminal type:

Code:
su
-enter password-
urpmi kernel-
Now look and see which kernel you want to use. There is the 2.6.4-1, you might feel like using that one. After you know which one, in the same terminal type:

Code:
urpmi KERNEL CHOSEN
This will install the kernel. Then restart your computer, choose the new kernel, you're good to go.
