Question CIFS Error

Hi,

I have a small home network, all totaled 1 terabite. Everything is clicking right along until I update Mandriva. All the various file folders were EASY to mount using smb4k prior to upgrade. NOW? here is the error message I get:

/bin/mount.cifs: permission denied: no match for /home/kathi/smb4k/nas-d3-2a-7a/kathi found in /etc/fstab. The various folders are displayed, I just can't mount them. I am *NOT* into networking and I don't know zilch about it. I do know that I need to get into my main drives!

Any networking guru's out there?

Adriann

Buchan Milne is Mandriva's Samba maintainer.

Unhappy

Hi Jim, thank you for the posting. I find this to be a pita. I chose to use my root password to access my home network. I agree with those users who say this was not thought through on the secondary level. I should not have to use a root pass to access my system. In windows I do not have to do that. I admit that I have not read all of the docs that go with the post as I have limited time. As a very end user of Mandriva Linux it comes across to me as a microware approach i.e. here it is like it or not. How about the OPTION to install the fix? If you don't install, here is what can happen. If you do install here is what you have to do - your choice. IMHO what has happened is to take a rather simple process and glob it up. Then follow up with a rather stubborn "we are not going to fix our fix" - Adri

Again Jim, thank you for your post. The root pass did work on my laptop, I haven't had a chance to get at my other two computers.
