can't mount external usb ntfs harddrive

is there something wrong with the mandriva 2005 kernel with umass? on friend's computer his external hd won't mount, is ntfs formatted but shouldn't make a difference. can't even fdisk it

is your external a SATA drive? Typically sdx is reserved for SCSI and SATA. I'm sure we can fix this. I don't have my fstab file here in front of me, but mine works and I will post it when I get home.
