Bring up interface tr0 hangs system on bootup

hello,
just installed mandrake 9.1 on ibm intellistation e pro pii 400 w/existing windows 95 also. when linux is booting it hangs on "bringing up interface tr0". when i go thru interactive startup and say no to detect new hardware and several other options i'm not sure about she boots into xfree no problem. any suggestions what i can do 2 get this corrected? i'm a relative newbie so please keep that in mind.thanx..

upon looking into the problem further i see that the computer has a token ring card ( I guess that what the tr0 reference is duhhh). when i do an interactive startup and skip "detect new hardware" i start into the x server fine. is there some file i can modify so the system wont look to detect the the token ring card on bootup ...
