Question boot in bash instead of KDE or GNOME PLZ Help

I'm a new linux user. I've been looking up alot of mandrake documentations but I can't figure out how to load the Graphical login screen instead of the bash shell. I think I install and configure it wrong. If you guys know which step that allows you to configure how linux boot up and how it should load the Graphical screen plz help. I went until 2 am yesterday trying to figure out why it starts at the bash login instead of KDE or GNOME. No luck. I think it might be the server thingy should I even install the server packages? I'm using Linux for development. Any suggestions as to what package I should install is appreciated.

You need to set your system to boot to a different run level (probably 5).

Edit the file /et/inittab

There will be a section that lists the various run levels and what the default setting is. Just change the default to boot to xdm/kdm/gdm and you're good to go.
