Do you see video output with any of the other players?

The most current Kaffeine is working well here. I just downloaded several sample avi videos, and they all ran as expected.

Package information from rpmdrake:

kaffeine - Media Player for KDE4

Kaffeine is a KDE4 Multi Engine Media Player.

Version: 1.0-0.pre3.2mdv2010.0
Currently installed version: 1.0-0.pre3.2mdv2010.0
Group: Graphical desktop/KDE
Architecture: x86_64
Size: 1526 KB

HTH,

itll be a codec issue of some sort.
try vlc media player . with plf sources youll find all the codecs you need in the package manger.
I havent had a great deal of succes with kaffiene since mandrivia 2008.1 kde 3.57.
search codec in the packagemanager. with plf sources installed

It's the codec; AVI format uses divx/xvid codec.

Have you try mplayer? It can play most formats and codecs. Don't forget to install it's GUI (mplayer-gui) and win32-codecs to play MS Win formats such as wmv.

Kaffeine uses either xine or the gstreamer interface.

win32-codecs will be found and used with xine

gstreamer may require you to install individual codecs

that's using kde4.

I, also, got frustrated with kaffeine(4) playlist feature.

I'm currently using vlc as my main, but dragon player (mplayer front end) does a fine job too.

MenCoder comes to mind for mplayer codecs.

regards Glenn
