"Attempted to kill idle/init task" during installation of Mandrake 10
Hi,
I've got a problem here. I'm trying to install Mandrake 10 on my
PC, but I don't get past the boot process from CD. What happens is
that as soon as I press enter to begin installing, the
kernel panics after a few messages (registers dump and such) with
the following error: "Attempted to kill idle task". If I boot with
kernel 2.4.26 the system seems to start installing but since my intention
is to give a try at 2.6 kernel I aborted the installation process.
Some time ago, with an old beta, the message was "Attempted to kill init",
always right after the boot. Since filesystem is not in place yet, I don't
know how to look at logs (not that I'd understand much anyway, I'm a Linux
newbie). Googling around took me nowhere. I found very little material and
it didn't really seem to fit in my case.
Can anybody help me?
My Pc configuration is(based on my memory):
- Intel D865GBF motherboard
- 2.8Ghz P4 HT
- 1GB ram
- Onboard soundcard (MB chipset is i810 and the sound chip is an AC'97 something)
- ATI Radeon 9800 128MB
- *SATA* 200GB HD (I know, this could be an issue, but I didn't have any
problem with 2.4 kernels and with windows. 2.6 kernel AFAIK
should handle sata stuff without hassle or, at least, better that 2.4)
- 1 CD burner, 1 DVD reader and a DVD burner
- USB Mouse
- Onboard network adapter(Intel E1000 gigabit)
Thank you
