ATI Fire GL2 isue

I am relatively new to linux and have been using live cds for about half a year.....i finally decided to move towared a linux harddisk install....unfortunately yhte machine i intended to install mandrake 10.1 on died last week....and my new machine has been unable to produce a graphical display for my live cd distros.....knoppix would often go into text mode after my display card counl not be initiialized.....

i am wondering if mandrake 10.1 has any compatibility issues with ATI Fire Gl2 graphics card?

my system specs
dual p4 xeon 1.7ghz SSE
512 Ram
onboard audio
wireless card
ati fire gl2

the system can boot from a cd....but can only run my distros in text mode

thanks
