Question Atapi and Mandrake Incompatibilities?

Has anyone ever heard of incompatibles between the Atapi brand and Mandrake? I can not find Atapi in the list of hardware vendors on the mandrake site. I am beginning to think it's a hardware incompatibility I'm dealing with because I've tried everything suggested so far to get the cdrom to read cds. The cdrom is mounted but when I click on the icon, it opens the folder giving me the message "sorry could not display all contents of 'cdrom' ".

ATAPI is not a brand it is an interface AKA IDE.

What type of CDs are you trying to read? Could be a supermount issue.

I didn't realize you already have a thread opened on the topic.

actually, my mistake, i believe the brand is crd, I'm not really an expert at comps as people can tell, sorry. yes it is crd, which isn't listed @ the mandrake site I've been trying to get it to read a burned cd (burned it under windows via roxio easy cd creator) so I can install a driver to make the soundcard work under Linux and I've tried burned music cds under Linux as well as the mandrake distro cd. Supermount, well I unchecked it under the Mandrake control center, no change

Can you read the CD with windows?

Can you read the other CDs you burned with linux?

ATAPI is well supported in all of the distros. It should not be an issue. Now there could be a hardware problem with the dirve.

My memory fails me.....

What version of Mandrake are you running? 9.2? Is this an LG drive? If so there are some incompatability issues between the two. Can you post the model number of the drive?

Post the output of:
dmesg | grep ATAPI

Hi. Well windows will read the cds as for mandrake, no go I'm using Mandrake 9.0 currently, hope to be recieving 10 in the mail next week or the week after that.

dmesg | grep ATAPI says :

hdc : CRD-8322B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive <---(that's a mistake, it's just a cdrom drive)

As for the brand, Mandrake for some reason does not specify. I've seen people's terminals in dmesg read Hitachi CRD-(serial num here) so I don't know if it's made by Hewlett-Packard or some generic brand.

By the way, before Mandrake, it had Windows 98 on it but I wiped it from the drive using the Mandrake installation procedure.
