Hey, when I try and boot into Linux with my 9600 Pro installed, the X Server crashes or something... I can't get into my GUI. And on a side note, which one is good to use? Im confused, Gnome? ETC...

I am having the same problem.

I am running XFree86 version 4.3.0 and haven't had teh chance to upgrade to 4.4.0

I just installed Mandrake 9.2 and my KDE version will not start.

I am using an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with 128mb RAM.

When I try to start Xwindows from the console it give me an error saying that no windows were found.

Is there anyone out there who may be able to help?

Mandrake 9.2 does not come with a driver for the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card. You have to download the driver from ATI's website.

The file I used is: fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.8.i586.rpm.

To install: # rpm -i --force fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.8.i586.rpm

(You may have to download the kernel sources. I had to download that for either this, or my hsfmodem.)

Then run: # fglrxconfig

Then run: # fglrxinfo
This should show the right driver "fireglcontrol"

To change screen resolution or depth, you have to use fglrxconfig.
